According to Psychology Today, the term validation is the recognition and acceptance of another person’s thoughts, feelings, sensations, and behaviors as understandable.  

While there’s nothing inherently wrong with the need for validation, or validating someone else’s thoughts & feelings, it can become a problem when the reason behind your own need for validation is keeping you stuck or struggling in an area of potential growth.
